Book Week Scotland

‘People and Books in Fifteenth-Century Scotland and England: Fresh Research Directions’

As part of Book Week Scotland I headed up to Aberdeen to give a talk with Jane Pirie called ‘People and Books in Fifteenth-Century Scotland and England: Fresh Research Directions.’ For this we were each discussing our new research on fifteenth-century manuscripts and printed books with a particular emphasis on those held in the collections at Aberdeen.

This work tied into a research fellowship I undertook at the Duncan Rice Library in August 2022 and also to two resulting chapters I wrote for the Edinburgh History of the Book in Scotland (forthcoming, EUP).

The talk was a fantastic opportunity to hold a public facing outreach event with the actual manuscripts in the room and also to bring my travelling exhibition of pigments and materials.

It also allowed me a little more time to examine some of the fascinating works there.

The only difficulty was to be giving an evening talk in Aberdeen and then heading back to Edinburgh to teach early the next morning. But I made it and all was well.

It was great to be back at the Duncan Rice Library.
